Thinking about writing documentation for project under GPL?

Did you consider licencing your documentation under GNU Free Documentation License? Maybe you should reconsider your decision. IMHO technical documentation will be better served for now by GPL.

New Debian Social Contract also enforces that, so documentation under GNU FDL will be moved to non-free.
